In short

SheetVideo opens MusicXML (.musicxml, .mxl, .xml) in the browser, engraves it, and saves it as a PDF through the print dialog, with no notation software installed. The file is read in your browser and never uploaded: there is no server on the other end that sees it.

What comes across
  1. Every part, in score order
  2. Piano on a grand staff, guitar with tab
  3. Key, time signatures and tempo
  4. The title and composer at the top
What does not, and why
  1. The original page layout: pages are engraved again
  2. Lyrics and chord symbols

A MusicXML viewer that prints

MusicXML is the format notation programs share, but it is not a document you can open with a double click. This page reads it and engraves it, so you can look at the score, print it, or keep it as a PDF.

The file is read in your browser and never uploaded: there is no server on the other end that sees it.

Questions

Why these tools are free

They are pieces of SheetVideo

SheetVideo puts sheet music and tab on videos of people playing, lined up with the recording by listening to it. To do that it has to read every score format there is, and write them out again. These pages are those readers and writers, opened up. The video is the part that is paid, and only for full-length exports without the small mark.
